Healing isn’t a revolutionary act for a select few.

How did I manage to heal my thyroid to the point of becoming medication free, whilst so many struggle to simply manage it on a daily basis?

Well there is no short answer to this but you should know that healing is accessible to everyone, our bodies are very intelligent and have an innate ability to self heal. You hear of people recovering from various illnesses and diseases from cancer to heart disease and everything in between. Autoimmune disease or thyroid issues aren’t any different, your body is very clever and knows what to do to heal. You, however, need to know how to create the right environment for it to do so. First things first though you have to change your mindset and begin to believe that it’s possible for you to heal. Mindset is key, you want the mind and body working together in perfect synergy here.

Currently, your body is most likely operating in survival mode in order to keep you functioning as best it can, hence why you feel sluggish and fatigued a lot of the time. Your body is tired, its overburdened and in a constant state of fight or flight. You must stop believing your body is working against you, it’s really not. It has always been working for you, once you truly start to believe this you will respond to it in a more gentle and loving way. Its kept you alive each and every day and its time to honour it with the love, respect, care and nourishment it deserves.

It’s time to heal and to do so you must begin to create the correct environment for your body to begin to thrive. This might be reducing your work commitments where and when you can, learning to say no, eliminating stressors and toxins in your environment. For many it is also about unresolved childhood traumas and issues which must be faced in order to heal on both a mental and emotional level. If we don’t delve into these past issues then we continue to suppress our emotions (continue wearing the mask) which in turn blocks our energy and for someone trying to get healthy and stay healthy this is detrimental, we must heal every aspect of our very being. To do this we need to honour our feelings, lean into the sadness, anger, shame or guilt. Feel it, don’t deny it, acknowledge it, for only then can we move forward in a healthy way.

Removing negative people from your life, taking a break from social media and doing more of what feeds your soul are all positive things you can do to alleviate the overwhelm you are feeling. Bringing the body back into balance is super important and an area that we always deny ourselves of being able to do. Meditation and yoga are extremely beneficial in helping you reconnect to your mind, body and soul and certainly not something to be overlooked. I personally do Yin yoga which has helped my own energy to flow more freely as well as improve my poor circulation and ground me. Meditation has eliminated my anxiety just by putting aside 10 mins every day to focus on my breath.

Let’s talk diet, a key area of healing and one that consists of big changes for many. This is the area that people really struggle with the most, yet is fundamental to your healing. It’s about going back to basics and eliminating all processed and packaged foods from the diet in favour of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices. In doing so you are removing the inflammatory foods that are feeding your disease. This isn’t just a short term fix its a lifestyle change, a way of living that will see you reclaim your health and keep it! Begin to view your food as your medicine, when you start to see it like that you become more mindful of what you put on the end of your fork. It sounds so easy, right? Not so, food is the single biggest addiction that we all have and so we need to become extremely self-disciplined here and focus on the bigger picture. This means refraining from picking up the sweets or cakes when things aren’t going so well in life, unfortunately for us, it doesn’t just result in weight gain but also inflammation and anxiety this further feeding the very disease we want to free ourselves from.

Drop the labels of the sick person, stop talking and thinking like the poorly person, what you think you become! It’s time to step into your power and focus on the healthy person, the able person, the healed and healthy you. Your body is waiting, it’s time to start nourishing the whole you back to health in mind, body and spirit. It’s not an easy journey nor is it the quick fix, some may be hoping for but it’s the true path that will lead you back to health and on the way, you will find self reclamation.
